Kimble, Chris / McLoughlin [1995]
Computer based Information Systems and Managers' Work
In: New Technology, Work and Employment, 10(1): 56-67
What is the "impact" of information technology on work organization? The paper identifies three different views on this question: the technology impact model, the social impact model and the integrationist model. These models are used to structure date from case studies to explore the implications of the use of computer-based information systems for managers' work. The paper argues that the "impact" of information systems is not a single stable and predictable outcome but a non-linear ongoing process that changes and evolves over time. And therefore the actions of individuals and groups within an organization are not wholly determinde by outside force: people can and do react to, and shape, systems in different ways.

    • 1993] Role of Information Technology in Managing Organizational Change and Organizational Interdependence
This paper sets forth the application of open systems theory for generating propositions regarding the management of organizational change and organizational interdependence by application of IT. The commonly preferred approaches - goal theory, population ecology, systems resource theory and transaction costs theory - are inadequate in providing a "wholistic" perspective of the organizational issues. Malhotra argues that the survival and growth of organizations in an increasingly turbulent environment would depend upon effective utilization of information technology for aligning the organizational structure with environmental preferences and for creating symbiotic interorganizational structures.

    Knowledge Leverage: The Ultimate Advantage
Human and knowledge capital are fundamental factors for economic prosperity and sustainable superior business competence. Yet these resources are not systemically and strategically managed to enhance business productivity or to demonstrate their maximal value to the firm. This may lead to the inefficient use, undervaluation of, and underinvestment in intellectual capital. The creation of a corporate focus for nurturing intellectual capital for achieving strategic objectives is at least as important as, and perhaps more urgent than, the current emphasis on assigning monetary value to intellectual capital.
