Knowledge Management
This paper sets forth the application of open systems theory for generating propositions regarding the management of organizational change and organizational interdependence by application of IT. The commonly preferred approaches - goal theory, population ecology, systems resource theory and transaction costs theory - are inadequate in providing a "wholistic" perspective of the organizational issues. Malhotra argues that the survival and growth of organizations in an increasingly turbulent environment would depend upon effective utilization of information technology for aligning the organizational structure with environmental preferences and for creating symbiotic interorganizational structures.
A Competitive Intelligence Program (CIP) is used as an analogy for explaining the critical aspects of measurement in organizational research. A conceptual model of Competitive Intelligence Program is developed based on extant practitioner literature. Key aspects of this model are then used for defining the 'critical ingredients' of measurement in organizational research: constructs, validity, and reliability, as well as their interrelationships.

Knowledge Leverage: The Ultimate Advantage
Human and knowledge capital are fundamental factors for economic prosperity and sustainable superior business competence. Yet these resources are not systemically and strategically managed to enhance business productivity or to demonstrate their maximal value to the firm. This may lead to the inefficient use, undervaluation of, and underinvestment in intellectual capital. The creation of a corporate focus for nurturing intellectual capital for achieving strategic objectives is at least as important as, and perhaps more urgent than, the current emphasis on assigning monetary value to intellectual capital.
The Knowledge Organization: Knowledge management = asset management
Knowledge is hard to manage and organizations without learning capacity will become obsolete. But what kind of knowhow makes a company competitive? And why is the meaning of knowledge management in daily business life still so ambiguous for many professionals?
From: The Systems Thinker 7(1), February 1996.
