- Big Brother
A shareware program created by François Potter (INRIA, The French National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Control). Download the program and pay that guy $10 - he earned it. Bif Brother will check links within a web document as soon as you type in a URL (file or directory level) or open a local file/folder on your hard drive. The output - a detailed summary of the links including the text which was hyperlinked, URL, source, and a diagnosis - can be exported as an HTML document. It checks 25 or more links simultaneously. You can configure Big Brother for quick opening of sites and scripting to automate checking.
- LinkCheck v.4
LinkCheck allows you to check the links on any page. It can be used to create inline images on a web page, or scan a web page for links and return a "link-checked" page. The neatest thing about it is the "Check-n-Browse" mode which allows you to browse the web, while checking links the entire time! The creator of this program is John Ray (Ohio State University, USA).
- NetMechanic
The NetMechanic can check your Web site for HTML syntax errors, or it can check all the links on your site to make sure they are still valid. The site can either be checked in the foreground, meaning that as you wait, you see a graphical icon that indicates the progress. For whole sites (instead of single pages), the process can take place in the background - the NetMechanic will email you when the testing is over, and you simply go to the URL specified on the email, and all your links are listed with an explanation of errors, bad links, etc. on a page-by-page basis.
- W3C Link Checker
Checks that all the links in an HTML or XHTML document are dereferenceable, including the fragment, and warns about HTTP redirects, including directory redirects. It can also check recursively a part of a Web site.
